Growing
up on a diet of funk, gospel and hip hop, de hooch was always going
to be serious about music and started building up her record collection
at an early age.
After going to Vague at just 15yrs old de hooch knew she needed to
dj at the Warehouse in Leeds.
Her
upfront 'lets get this party started' attitude secured her the dream
gig and has blown away crowds now from Newcastle down to London.
Five years on, De Hooch's rock solid mixing
speaks for itself, this queen of all things funky has an amazing
ability to layer tunes just at the right point and bangs them into
the mix with incredible ease.
Funky, chunky house is her niche and she
commands the best from her fave labels such as Houseworks, Stoneyboy,
Defected, Subliminal and Phatucini and has great respect for the
production skills of Junior Jack, Antoine Clamaran, Olav Basoski
and more recently Sandy Wilhelm. De Hooch is quite philosophical
about her music ' I play really driving, funky house, its not fluffy
or floral, I hate that stuff. My music reflects my attitude to life,
dont stand for any nonsense, be confident in all you do and most
importantly have fun!!'
Working two residencies, both in Leeds at
Speedqueen and Gladrags, de hooch can also be seen at guest spots
in England and Ibiza playing at Eden, Bar Kanya and can be heard
mixing live on Ibiza radio.
Pretenders be afraid, be very afraid ...
2004 was a fantastic year for
De Hooch with her residency at Gladrags securing her the title of
runner up for Best DJ in the Leeds Bar and Club awards and her six
year residency at Speedqueen reaching an all time high when they
took the night to war - torn Bosnia.
"They was the most amazing
gigs I have ever done. Seeing the Serbians, Croatians and Muslims
all coming together as one on the dance floor was so moving and
I really felt at that moment how powerful music can be. We built
bridges that night that even the United Nations couldn't build."
These were the two main highlights of 2004,
but she also rocked Ibiza playing at Eden and doing a guest spot
for Ibiza radio. All in all it’s been an exiting year, so what can
we expect for 2005? Who knows where she could go... just make sure
you buy a ticket and start queuing early!!
