Mario
Ferrini "The New History of Dance Music" |
Mario
Ferrini started his career in 1994 spinning Disco, Garage and Techno.
Later with a few friends he would go on to create "The Nightmare
Team" and organized some of the most unforgettable and legendary
parties in "The Splash-Club", in Liestal. Armando was
soon booked at several parties around Basel including “Atlantis”,
Aqua Lounge”, "Babalabar", “Bar Rouge”, "Bordello",
"Carambar", “Krishnamurti”, “Monalisa Club”, "Mosquito",
“Pizza-Bar”, “Plaza Club”, “Prince Club”, “Rhypark Saalbau”, “Q-Bar”,
"Queens Club", "Saxophon", “Susu’s Bar”, "Tresor
Club", and many more.
He then began to DJ abroad spinning in Loerrach (Germany), in Bartenheim
(France), in Graz (Austria), in London (UK) and Miami (USA). As
a promoter he pioneered more nights like "The Arts Of House
Sound" in the Modus Club, Liestal, "The planet of House"
at club Diva in Pratteln, “Groovelift” at Voltahalle Basel, “Neon
Blue” at Jobfactory Basel, “UDM SHOW Live!” at Atlantis and many
more in the Basel region.
Still he wasn’t content with just organising
and presenting parties. At the end of summer 2000 he had a few piano
lessons and realised he wanted to make some of the music he loved.
~With a couple of good friends he started his own recording studio.
In that time his taste in music changed. Today he’s very much into
the house music scene, loving the real instrumentation of the jazz
organ, vibraphone and saxophones. In the year 2002 his musical quest
began with Treibhouse, a house and progressive house radio show
on Radio X Basel FM 94.5,
where he started as a promoter, later then as editor and than as
moderator. In September 2003 he founded the UDM SHOW one of the
most popular international radio show, which he produced till April
2006.
In collaboration with the UK’s own
Sueno Soul he produced the track called "My Latin Woman"
which was released on Poji Records USA in February 2005. He’s always
in the studio working on something fresh – so watch this space!

live settings has afforded the highly sought after duo many unique
opportunities ranging from Guest DJ sets for world renowned Tiffany’s
Jewelers 40th Anniversary Party in Beverly Hills, and Casio/G-Shock
in Hollywood, to remixing the Duke Ellington standard “Caravan”
for the acclaimed “Upstairs At Larry’s” project. Their unforgettable
set on the 2004 Detroit Movement Festival’s main stage proved to
be pivotal in showcasing GJs ability to rock a few thousand rain
soaked hardcore electronic dance enthusiasts with their own brand
of hybrid soul/funk house. Later that year they were commissioned
to do their first guest mix for Seamless Recordings. Their Bargrooves
“Mimosa” mix still stands as one of the most successful mixed compilations
in the series, putting their deft programming skills on full display.
Most recently in the summer of 2006 GJs applied their DJing magic
again on two mixed compilations - “Om Summer Sessions”, and “Afterdark/Los
Angeles” on Kinkysweet (their fourth now in a two year span). The
two highly anticipated projects spotlight the freshest house tracks
on the planet many of which are their own original productions.
Both compilations, while different in their approach, serve as bold
follow-ups to GJs critically acclaimed “House of OM” Mix in 2005,
which received “Compilation of the Month” status in numerous trade
publications and worldwide critical acclaim.
Groove Junkies are constantly raising their credibility and marketability
by taking time from their hectic schedule to appear as guest DJ's
on various international radio shows such as Radio 1, Ministry of
Sound Radio, & Hed Kandi Radio in the UK, Radio Top & UDM
in Switzerland, Radio Italia in Italy, Radio 1 in Norway and KCRW
& Power Tools on Power 106 in their hometown of Los Angeles.
DJ
Dealer has been a shining light for over a decade when it comes
to the house music scene and the music industry in general. Whether
it’s releasing individual projects on notable labels such as Subliminal
or doing original productions and remixes as the Pound Boys or Juke
Joint, the founder and owner of Look At You Records has pretty much
done it all. As a DJ, his skills have taken him all over the world
– NYC, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, London, Rome,
Melbourne, Milan, Sydney, Berlin, and Manchester, to name a few.
Additionally, he has been able to play alongside such DJ legends
as Frankie Knuckles, “Little” Louie Vega, and Steve “Silk” Hurley.
Although DJ Dealer seemingly just goes about his business “quietly”,
much of his production work has made quite a bit of noise in the
house community. Remixes of Angie Stone “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,”
Whitney Houston “Love That Man,” and Mary J. Blige “Your Child”
all went #1 on the charts and original productions “K Pasa” and
“The Right Way” were huge club smashes all over the world.
In addition to all of this, Dealer has found the time to establish
one of the world’s most recognized independent house labels, Look
At You Records, which will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2007.
Dealer started Look At You with a commitment to releasing quality
house music and a dedication to providing a whole new generation
of DJs and producers with exposure to an international audience.
DJ Dealer has done original productions and remixes with artists
like Joi Cardwell, Lisa Millett, Dajae, Usher, Mariah Carey, Byron
Stingily, Brandy, Yolanda Adams, Kim English and Sandy Rivera.
Look at You has also released records from artists like Blaze,
The Basement Boys, Soul Providers, Knee Deep, Bini & Martini,
The Audiowhores, and many others. Dealer has set the bar high –
past, present, and future.
DJ
Joe Doppio has had a love for music since childhood. At the age of
5 , Joe used to play with his parents Hi Fi home stereo system and
the Turntable was what captured his by the time he was 14 years old,
he realized that his interest in DJing was genuine. Legendary artists
such as Earth Wind and Fire influenced the growth and sense of direction
within Joe's record collection. Today his collection includes more
than 23,000 records and features the best in Acid Jazz, Funk, R&B,
Hip Hop, Deep House , Garage and Soulful House. In 1979, Joe secured
his first residency as a DJ at a venue called K13 located between

enabled him to play at many venues throughout Europe including clubs
and events in Greece, Switzerland, Germany, Malta, Italy and France.
After establishing himself as an effective nightclub DJ, Joe began
to appear on Italian radio and also became involved in music production.
It was during 1996 when his first production " No Time"
with vocals by Matt Wood, was completed with New York music label
Groovin Records. He then teamed up with Tony Maione and developed
original productions and remixes for Catch the Vinyl (New York), Dino
&
Terry, Paul Simpson, Michael Proctor and Irma Records. Continuing
in his role as a music industry professional, Joe worked for Flying
Records/UMM (Italy) from 1992 to 1996 as an Export Manager. He also
worked for House Tracks (Italy) as the Import Buyer and in Sales from
1996 to 1999 .
Another role within the music industry that Joe played was working
in New York City from 1999 to 2001 for Turning Point L.T.D. as a record
label promoter with focus on promoting independent House music oriented
record labels for licensing and record pool involvement. At present,
Joe is dedicated to DJing and the development of Catch the Vinyl ,
along with partner Tony Maione.Thru their Allas, Connected Funk, Joe
and Tony Strive to produce high quality house and Soulful music for
distribution thru Catch the Vinyl, which is positioned as a American
Record label with it's primary recording studio located in Naples
Italy. Joe cites the following producers and vocalists as being major
sources of inspiration: Masters at work (Kenny Dope Gonzalez &
Little Louie Vega), Jay Jay Hernandez, David Harness, Dennis Ferrer,
John Cutler, Mr.V, Matthias Heilbronn, Jose Burgos, Michelle Weeks,
Jocelyn Brown, Kenny Bobien, SuSu Bobien, Colonel Abrams, Frank Roger
and many many more. Joe prefers record Labels that consistently produce
high quality songs and tracks that focus upon the sounds of natural
soulmusic. I would like to say, thanks to everyone that believes and
has faith in House Music and to all the producers, artists and DJ's.
Keep Promoting the Sound !!! I love you all !! Peace
BORN:
September 198, CITY: Hannover, Germany, STYLE: House Music (deep,
latin, nu-jazz, tribal, vocal). In 1993, when Andreas M. bought his
very first record, the dealer could tell by the twinkle in the twelve
year-old's eyes that this boy would return for more very soon. Andreas
didn t prove him wrong. Ttoday he is known to the local music scene
as DJ Peavey and on his shelves are approximately a thousand electronic
music records. His enormous collection reaches from early Detroit
and Chicago Techno through Drum n Bass to a vast amount of House
Music. But Peavey's musical background goes even deeper. By the
age of six he started taking lessons on the alto sax and has been
gathering a lot of musical experience performing with a couple of
different bands since then. As a DJ he began to serve the crowd
with tasteful music at small events, such as school parties or weddings,
following only one aim: Making people dance and shout for more of
his eclectic and unique sound.
Since 2002 Peavey studies Popular Music & Media at Detmold
Conservatory and at the University of Paderborn. In
conjunction with his scholastics he started working for Peppermint
Jam Records in October 2004 gaining insight into both music production
and the day-to-day business of a record label.
Detroit
has been credited as one of the Soul Music capitals of the world,
spawning legendary artists like The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye and Diana
Ross just to name a few. Within the past decade Detroit's Underground
Music Movement has brought rise to new artists such as Derrick May,
Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson and a host of others.
But unlike the aforesaid names, Terrence Parker has established
himself as a producer, re-mixer and DJ of the classic sound of House
Music, and is known as a pioneer of the Inspirational / Gospel House
movement! Terrence Parker has performed as a DJ in more than 100
cities throughout the world.
Since 1988, he has released more than 100 recordings, and had top
20 hits with his songs "Love's Got Me High", "The
Question" and albums like "Detroit After Dark" in
the UK, The Netherlands, Germany, and France. As one of the headliners
for the 2004 Detroit Movement Festival (May 2004), TP (along with
his friend & Detroit legend DJ Mo Reese) performed a stunning
Tagteam DJ set on 4 turntables with 2 live vocalists for a crowd
of over 100,000 people. As part of the Detroit Historical Museum's
History of Techno International Exhibit, TP's collective musical
works and pioneering efforts have been recognized as a valuable
contribution to Detroit's music history, as well as the International
History Dance Music. This exhibit is currently touring museums throughout
the United States.
In 2002, TP retired from DJing for approximately 1 year in order
to make certain that his career in music was in accord with his
spiritual direction. But now he is back, DJing and making positive
music for all of the world to enjoy. TP's incredible DJing talents
can be heard regularly on WJLB FM98's "Club Insomnia"
(Detroit's No # 1 Urban Radio Station). Furthermore, TP produces
several DJ mix shows (including The Inspirational House Mix Show),
which can be heard on FM, Internet, and Satellite/Digital Radio
stations in the UK, BRAZIL, SWITZERLAND, GREECE, GERMANY, FRANCE,
TURKEY, NORWAY, and JAPAN.
In the USA, TP's mixes can be heard regularly on XM Satellite Radio's
"The Move" Channel. Terrence is also the program director
for E-RadioBiz.com’s “DANCE” channel. Terrence’s most recent remix
projects are currently topping charts and driving dance floors all
over the world. Some of his most recent remix projects include such
popular artists as Kanye West, Christina Aguilera, Shaun Escoffery
, Ce Ce Winans, Dr. Charles Hayes & The Cosmopolitan Church
Of Prayer Choir, Omarion, Amerie, and Chris Brown. Terrence has
also been busy working on his own projects with artists Coco Street
and Darnell Kendricks. These artists and more are featured on TP’s
new Inspirational House Music label called AGAPE Music Works! Terrence
Parker is definitely still in the game, and better than ever. Some
people call TP the "Telephone Man" because he uses an
actual telephone as headphones. We call him the "Telephone
Man" because he has answered the CALL to bring us music to
feed our souls!

Derrick Carter; artists Wyclef Jean, Jody Watley, k-os and even
designers D Squared.
The reason for jojoflores’ success is a simple ricochet
effect: the love and support he receives keeps him going strong.
jojoflores keeps the vibe alive with determination, passion, and
the upstanding mission to touch the heart of the ones who love music
as much as he does. In times of war, disarray and disillusion, jojoflores
provides solace and, from the four corners of the globe, re-ignites
our purpose and our reason. His sound is now.

Meet
SUMO – the hardest working producer duo in the dance business. In
just five years, they have become well known and respected for productions
like ”Wintersong” (Africanism), ”Supra Sumo” (Soulfuric) and ”Tribute/Factory”
(Heya Hifi). The last couple of years’ focusing on remix work resulted
in their first abum called ”Rebounces” (Heya Hifi) including outstanding
versions of Blaze’s ”My beat” and Trüby Trio’s ”Make a Move” for
example.
These days SUMO are finishing their debut artist album, ”The Danceband”,
due May 2006. In between studio work and running the label Heya
Hifi they spend much time spreading a diverse blend of dance music
in clubs all over the world. Catch a dj- or a liveset if you can,
you’ll be blown away.
HISTORY
1999. Combo and Alf meet during a recording session. Sharing the
same view on dance music they decide to start working together.
Their first production is a remix of Taxi’s “Living on the wire”
on the German label Infracom. It is released under the moniker Tumble
& Combo. 2000. The guys split up; Combo moves to New York and
Alf heads for London. Seven months later, back in Stockholm they
decide to pick up where they left things. The result is signed to
the NYC-label Trackmode. The name of
the record is “S.U.M.O. EP1” and from that moment SUMO is official.
2001. SUMO team up with Los Angeles based label Seasons. This is
the beginning of a long relationship which will result in numerous
EP’s and the album “S.U.M.O. Workout”. SUMO move to their first
own studio which they call HEYA (Japanese for the house where sumos
live, eat and practice).
2002. Inspired by Alf’s success as a dj, Combo joins the game himself.
SUMO get their first big hit, ”Wintersong”, featuring Karime Kendra,
released on the French label Africanism/Yellow. During the spring
of 2002 the guys put together a live act called SUMO SESSIONS. With
Alf on the decks, Combo on the saxophone, their favourite percussionist
Thomas Eby (who you can hear on many of their productions) and the
multi talanted Rasmus Faber on keys they tour all over Scandinavia.
2003. SUMO go on a two weeks long dj-tour in the States. This years
edition of SUMO SESSIONS features the Ugandan singer and bassplayer
Sammy Kasule. The latin explosion ”Samba Consumo” featuring Simone
Moreno reaches the number 1 spot in DJ Magazine’s Hype Chart. SUMO
receive two awards at the Scandinavian Music Conference, one for
best act/artist and one for best 12” (Wintersong).
2004. SUMO go on their second dj-tour in the States ending up at
WMC in Miami, where one of the hottest tunes is SUMO’s own ”Supra
Sumo”. It reaches nr 1 at DJ-Mags Hype Chart later in the spring.
They also take their SUMO SESSIONS to London (UK) and give a performance
at the Trans Europe Express Festival. In time for the fall the boys
shut the door to Heya Studios and start working on a remix album.
2005. SUMO put a lot of effort in the launch of their label Heya
Hifi. The first release is a collection of SUMO’s most wanted remixes,
called ”Rebounces”, and is released together with two vinyl samplers.
Strengthened by the succes they start working on the album ”The
Danceband” during the fall. The first single from the album, ”Tribute/Factory”,
gets major support from music lovers all over. Just before Christmas,
burglars break into HEYA and steal, among other things, a computer
holding material to ”The Danceband”. The day before Christmas SUMO
start working on their album for the second time.
Roberto
De Carlo -we’re often asked, if this is his artist name. No, it’s
his real name. If there’s a real aritst behind it answers his music.
Born in 1979 the swiss-based south-Italian puts all his temperament
into his vocation and that’s not only heard by the party-crowd.
Everybody listening to his sound quickly realices his honest passion.
Roberto was always fascinated by the clubscene, probably because
of his father who was the owner of the legendary “TIVOLINO” nightclub
in the mid-eighties and where he stood at the early age of 6 for
the first time.
As a teenager inspired by the sounds Boris Dlugosch, Mousse T.
and Brian Tappert, Roberto started to work the turntables and collected
his first DJ-experinces in 1995 at the age of 16.
Due to his convincing Dj-Sets Roberto soon was invited to play at
various Swiss and international top-locations, such as the “Pravda”
(Luzern, Switzerland), “Kaufleuten” (Zürich, Switzerland), “Studio
Club” (Würzburg, Germany), or “Republic Café” (Salzburg, Austria).
Roberto will always stay true to his motto -Only Soulful Music.
With his precise technique and his inimitable sound with a touch
of Soul, Jazz and Latino, he get’s every location into the right
positive mood.
In 2000 Roberto started to produce in his own RDC-Studios. Already
two years later he worked in several projects and with different
musicians. In 2003 he released his first remix under the project-name
“Souldrops” on the renowned top-label “Purple Music”. Followed by
own productions in 2004, including “Freedom” together with the “soul-diva
from Brooklyn” Inaya Day or the first One Touch -”Ready?!“ together
with “The Soul Voice“ Colin Corvez Rich from the “Peppermint Jam”
imprint. In the same year GOGO Music released Roberto De Carlo’s
remix of Seek -”Everafter”.
2005 is a much promisong year for the artist: GOGO Music will release
his single Roberto De Carlo feat. Joshua – ”Soulful things” and
two remixes (“Toni Sea & Ralf GUM -Beautiful” and “Inaya Day
& Dennis Le Gree -Try me”). On Purple Music will follow more
songs by “One Touch”.
The
Beginning
At 27, Pablo Martinez has now been heavily involved with dance music
for some 12 years. Raised with a Hispanic background and living
in London he was subject to many different styles of music whilst
growing up. He first was introduced to Dance music by next door
neighbour and life long friend DJ Sammy Parra. A few attempts at
mixing round his friends house along with some schooling on dance
music and its scene and he was instantly hooked. Mixing & buying
records with his paper round money from the age of 12, Pablo started
playing his first gigs aged 14 where he would play at local social
club events put on by his older friends.
In his teen youth, he became more and more fine tuned into soulful
dance music and had turned Dj'ng into a serious hobby. Hero's for
him came in the shape of Blaze, Tony Humphries, Paul Trouble Anderson,
Masters at Work and Todd Terry amongst others. Not long after finding
his niche in dance music Pablo would always be found spinning in
a range of local venues alongside promoting his own events.
DJ
In 2000 Pablo formed the Samba La Casa Dj/production brand with
long time friend Chris Allan aka Chris Samba. The pair took the
brand name to the masses DJ'ing at a countless number of clubs and
becoming a regular name within the London club scene.Since then
Pablo has played alongside some of the biggest names in the industry
at a massive array of different international venues including:
Fabric, Ministry Of Sound, Turnmills, The Cross, Pacha, HQ (Birmingham),
Q Club (Bangkok), Mint Bar (Koh Samui) and Sala (Madrid) the list
could go on and on. Pablo has also been (and is still is) called
upon to guest for a number of promoters & specialist nights
including: Soul Heaven, City Loud, Renaissance, Indulge, Flick,
Moneypennies, Soul Vision, Lamerica & Garage City all as well
as co hosting a number of his own nights in the UK.
In late 2004 Pablo was also nominated for the Breakthrough DJ Award
at the 1st Global House Music Awards which took place in London.
More recently Pablo has also started to receive more international
demand playing in cities such as Miami, Las Vegas, LA, Rome, Sorrento,
Galicia, Madrid, Barcelona, Dubai, NYC, Tokyo, Bangkok and more..
Radio
Most certainly not a stranger to radio Pablo has performed guest
mixes and interviews on a huge list of stations in the UK and overseas
including Kiss Fm, Radio1(Spain & UK), BBC 1Xtra, Capital 95.8,
Choice FM & Ministry of Sound radio. He also has hosted his
own fair share of Shows on the likes of Pure DM, House FM and from
October 04 to January 06 held a weekly show on www.Cyberjamz.com
which received great acclaim from the public with exclusive guest
appearances from the likes of Quentin Harris, Bobby & Steve,
Benji Candelario, Todd Gardner and Terry Hunter to name a few. With
the launch of www.PabloMartinez.info Pablo is now focusing on mixshows
promoted through the site.

To
try to categorize Disciple is pointless, such is his diverse talent.
Happily surging between dance music genres, in 2005 he was the resident
DJ at Redlite (Montreal), On Broadway (Sandiego), Kudeta Lounge
(Puerto Rico), and two New York hot spots Pink Elephant and GBH
(Lotus). His UK profile is legendary, working in more clubs than
any American DJ to ever grace these shores. For the past 12 year
Disciple played in at least fifty clubs a year for the last ten
years. For the last five years his travels have been documented
on www.djdisciple.com.† He runs the label Catch 22 recordings (http://www.catch22recordings.com/).
The labels first world wide hit was "Put Your Hands Up"
By the Black & White Brothers. Success continued with the number
one billboard hit "Caught Up" "It's Easy" and
"Yes" from Disciple's My True Colors album. D&M, Brooklyn
Soul Boys, Banji Boys, Street Preacherz, and Nympho Soundz are Disciple
alias and collaborations licensed to hundreds of compilations. As
contributor for magazines I- DJ in England and Big Shot in New York
Disciples latest goal is to finish his own book On The Wheels Of
Steel.
His own Catch 22 nights are held bi-weekly at Mr. Black in New York
City with an open format style of dance that is becoming a hit.
With the world literally his oyster Disciple is reassuringly grounded
as to his future and his role in general in dance music: "For
me it€™s important to remember that DJing made me what I am and
that's always the first for me. I see dance music going through
